Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is the single greatest cause of injury to women in the United States.
Every 15 seconds a woman in the United States is beaten by her current or former husband or intimate partner.
Spousal abuse is the most common, yet least reported, crime in the United States.
85-95% of all domestic violence victims are female.
Abuse
An estimated 5.3 million women in the United States are abused each year.
Abuse can be physical, verbal, emotional and psychological.
Murder
Thousands of women and girls are murdered every year.
Approximately one-third of women murdered are killed by an intimate partner.
Over 1,500 women are murdered each year by current or former partners.
Robbery
One robbery occurs every minute.
Most offenders are armed with a knife or gun.
Most female victims are victims of purse snatching.
Kidnapping
Most abductions occur within a quarter of a mile from the victim's home.
Most strangers grab their victims on the street or try to lure them into vehicles.
Non-family abductions account for 12,000 of reported cases.
About 74% of non-family child abduction victims are girls.
In 46% of non-family abductions, the child was sexually assaulted.
Aggravated Assault
In addition to domestic violence, one aggravated assault occurs every 35 seconds.
Stalking
Over 500,000 women are stalked each year.
Home Invasion
1 out of 5 homes will experience a break in or home invasion.
Human Trafficking
According to the U.S. Department of State, there are an estimated 1.2 million children, women, and men trafficked throughout the world each year.
An estimated 17,500 are trafficked into the United States each year.
94% of human trafficking victims are female.
Two-thirds of human trafficking victims are age 17 or younger.
Sex Offenders
There are 600,000 registered sex offenders in the United States.
In addition to those who are registered, there are many sex offenders who do not register; many change their names, move, and plea bargain.
Bullying and Intimidation
Over 5.7 million youth in the United States are estimated to be involved in bullying as either a bully, a target of bullying, or both.
The Reality
There are far too many victims.
The criminals don’t follow the rules.
